Bleak House on the box

Given the title of this blog, how can I possibly pass by without mentioning the new BBC televisation of Charles Dickens’ Bleak House?

I don’t usually like Dickens adaptations; I haven’t liked the two previous attempts at Bleak House, which I've tried. This one works, though – and, on the basis of the first three half-hour episodes, I thoroughly recommend it. It’s beautifully done. It’s very well cast, with some surprising but inspired choices – Johnny Vegas as Krook, for instance, and Gillian Anderson (whose inclusion no doubt guarantees showing in the US) as a mesmerising Lady Dedlock with a perfect accent.
